Hiking Club
The McCall Hiking Club invites new members to explore and enjoy the magnificent country surrounding McCall, Idaho. "We seek to educate ourselves and the public about the availability and nature of these great hiking trails and to share information concerning the history, flora, and fauna of the area."

Ponderosa State Park
Ponderosa State Park covers most of a 1,000-acre peninsula that juts into beautiful Payette Lake near McCall. The park offers hiking and biking trails, guided walks with park naturalists and evening campfire programs. The North Beach Unit has a beach and picnic area. The topography ranges from arid sagebrush flats to dense forests. Wildlife that can be viewed at the park include Canada geese, osprey, bald eagles, wood ducks, mallards, songbirds, deer, moose, beaver, muskrats and even bear. Winter activities include Nordic skiing on one of two USSA-certified cross-country courses. Source: Southwest Idaho Travel Association
Payette National Forest
The Payette National Forest covers much of west-central Idaho, and is virtually surrounded by other national forests and BLM-managed lands. It is bordered on the north by the Salmon River, on the west by the Snake River, on the east by the Middle Fork of the Salmon River and on the south by the Boise National Forest. The Payette includes a large portion of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Pristine high mountain lakes lie along the ridge between the South Fork Salmon River and the North Fork Payette River drainages.
Elevations on the forest range from 1,500 feet in Hells Canyon to over 9,500 feet in parts of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The forest offers many recreation opportunities. Source: Southwest Idaho Travel Association

Directions: Go to McCall and follow Warren Wagon rd around the north shore of Payette Lake. Go appxrotimately 30 miles to the end of the pavement. Don't miss Burgdorf Hot Springs .5 miles up the dirt rd. to the left. Go straight about 6 miles until you see the signs for Chinook campground on your right. Go to the campgrounds and where the rd. dead ends is the well marked trail head. Source: The Backpacker.com
